Cardiff Canton 4mm Scale

Cardiff Canton is built to UK 4mm Scale and is powered by DCC with Sound and Lighting.

Measuring 28ft x 2.6ft, Cardiff Canton needs an ideal footprint of 32ft x 5ft to allow access to the fiddle yards.

The layout has its own lighting rig and interactive information screen.  Available for exhibitions in UK and Europe.  Transport is within our own trailer.

The original depot in Cardiff was built in 1884 by the South Wales Railway which was subsequently inherited by the GWR.   In 1963 the new diesel depot was constructed on the site at a cost of £1,324,000.  Over its history, Cardiff Canton Passed through the hands of BR, Railfreight Steel Sector, Transrail and finally English Welsh & Scottish Railways (EWS).  Cardiff Canton closed as a freight depot in 2004 with many staff moving to the nearby depot at Margam.

It is in these later years that Cardiff Canton is modelled here.  Featuring locomotives and rolling stock from 1998 - 2004, faithfully researched and modelled by Chris.

Join us on the footbridge to catch the last of the traditional British Rail Traction at work as the new wave of American power takes over.

Awards from the Scottish Festival of Railway Modelling

Cardiff Canton wins silverware at SFORM

At the first Scottish Festival of Railway Modelling Cardiff Canton won not one, but two awards!

A slightly surprised Chris was awarded Rootes Trophy for Modelling Excellence and slightly later the Renfrewshire Quaiche for Overall best in Show.

Well done to Chris and the operating team of Cardiff Canton.
